I want to hire, house, or help someone

This page is for employers, landlords, churches, and families who want to help someone build a working life.

If you are hiring

What we learned from years of hiring:

  • Pay people while they train. Someone in a training program has nothing to live on while they learn. Two or three paid days of work a week alongside the training keeps them in it. We call it earn while you learn.
  • Decide what the job pays and write it down before you hire anyone into it.

Valued, Stephen Deason's book for employers who want to do this work, is forthcoming from Alder Creek Editions.

If you are mentoring someone

Placing somebody in a job is a transaction you can systematize. Developing somebody is one person at a time, and it costs real time. The Foundation took twenty-seven people through its mentoring program, and those twenty-seven took more of our time than all the hundreds of placements combined. If you are about to mentor someone, plan for that.

If you are a family member or a friend

The free guides on our I need help page are written to be read together. Start there.

Landlords and churches

Guides for landlords and churches are being written. Each one will be published at Alder Creek Editions and linked here.
